A Hand-Carved Home Altar by Mussner G. Vincenzo Ars Sacra

Today we are going to take a look at a unique home altar that was hand-carved by Mussner G. Vincenzo Ars Sacra, an atelier located in Ortisei, Italy.  The work involved the collaboration of various craftsmen, ranging from the sculptors, to the painters and goldsmiths, all of whom brought their various areas of expertise to bear to create a truly unique and eye-catching altar and altarpiece.

This home altar features themes related to St. Joseph and the Holy Family throughout its design -- and the fact this piece is entirely carved in wood is certainly apropos given that St. Joseph was a carpenter himself.

A closer look at the design shows the beautiful sculptural quality of the work, as well as the quality of the applied gilding and colouring:

For those interested in the artistic process, here are some views showing the altar from its initial conceptualization through the process of its creation.

A fantastic work that would be as well suited to finding its home in church proper as it is to a domestic chapel.
