Today I wished to take a few moments to feature the work, once again, of painter and mosaicist, Ioana Belcea of Princeton, New Jersey. Specifically I wished to look at the "Sancta Maria Regina Angelorum" fresco which is located in the Queen of Angels Chapel at Seton High School in Manassas, Virginia.
The chapel itself is rather striking and worth a look in its own right as it has a very noble design and ordering. I'd especially point out the beautiful and substantial stone altar.
As I say, however, it is the fresco by Ioana Belcea that I really wish to focus on here today. As the banner around the fresco suggests, it is a depiction of Mary, Queen of the Angels. We see the Virgin Mary centrally crowned in a large, golden corona; she in turn is surrounded by various angels. Stylistically speaking, the work has a certain Baroque and Rococo inspiration and quality, featuring a soft, pastel palette and figures depicted with movement and a certain dramatic and emotional quality.
Here are some details for your consideration.
You can see further examples of Ioana's decorative painting in this particular chapel on her website.
