With Advent having begun this weekend, I thought it would be of interest to show some further "varieties of violcaea" (violet) just as we did a year ago. Each of these examples comes from BeWeb and are from the 18th century. It is. of course. the case that each century brings to its own vestments the particular fashions and styles of its time. While the 19th century was heavily reliant on brocades and damasks of gold set against other colours for example, the 18th century was often characterized by pastels and coloured floral patterns. The variety found within the 18th century is one of the reasons why I find it particularly of interest.
