This past Advent 2018 was the first "violet" season where we didn't post up a selection of rose vestments for our readers enjoyment -- and the seemingly endless debate about what should or shouldn't constitute "rosacea." To make up for this deficit, however, I thought many of you would enjoy this rare example of a rose vestment from the papal treasury, taken likewise from the excellent book, Il Papa e le sue vesti. The arms are those of Pius XI.
The shade of rose utilized here is one I always particularly enjoy, something we would tend to now call salmon. This works very well with the beautiful gold embroideries that you can see on the vestment.
