As we continue with our architectural tour of the London Oratory, we now turn back to the other side of the nave, nearest to the side altar of St. Philip Neri, next to which is the chapel of the Seven Dolours of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
Above the altar, which was once again designed by Gribble, is a painting of the Our Lady of Sorrows painted by the 19th century Hungarian artist, Ferenc Szoldatis, which was in turn commissioned by Fr. Frederick William Faber.
Above the altar piece is a copy of Francesco Raibolini's "Entombment", the original of which hangs in London's National Gallery.
To either side of the altar are depictions of angels holding instruments of Christ's Passion.
This particular chapel is frequently used for smaller sized funerals.
