The website of Harrison Design features an interesting project which is due to begin construction in 2025 in Olathe, Kansas that I thought would be of interest to our readers. The project in question is for the comprehensive design of a school campus and corresponding church/chapel following a neo-classical and renaissance model. Harrison Design provides some background for the project:
The young and growing St. John Paul II Parish in Olathe, KS, is embarking on an ambitious and thorough process of master planning and phased campus construction, with work to begin on the first phase of construction in summer 2025. Taking cues from great campuses like Mundelein Seminary just north of Chicago, the new campus is arranged with strong axes, creating multiple compelling view corridors and giving a gracious, yet tranquil, aspect to the public right of way. The quad—formed by the main gates, school, church and hall—will be a beautiful, accommodating space for a variety of parish activities and ceremonies. The final plan will include a church, school, parish hall, rectory and cemetery, as well as other amenities including a ball field, playground and parking.
Using digital technologies, the architectural firm provides the following conceptual designs to help envision the project once completed:
On the interior, we find a design that is clearly modelled after St. Peter's Basilica in Rome with its arcades, barrel vaulting, cupola, and most especially its Berniniesque ciborium magnum -- or baldacchino as it is more commonly referred to in St. Peter's case.
A promising and exciting project which LAJ hopes to be able to feature again once construction is completed.
