The Saint Bede Studio in Australia: Purveyors of Fine Vestments

One of my favorite vestment ateliers is the Saint Bede Studio, based in Australia. The excellence and quality of craftsmanship and design of their creations inspires with elements of English nuance and detail. Over the years the Saint Bede Studio has vested priests, abbots, bishops, cardinals, and even Pope Benedict XVI.

Founded in 1999, the interpretation and distinctive designs of the Saint Bede Studio are solidly in the Catholic tradition. The output reflects well the spirit of the Medieval, Gothic Revival, and Early Baroque periods. Orders are custom made for clients and made to last many years.

Below are images of the Saint Bede mitre made for Pope Benedict, a triumphal achievement and acclaimed by not a few as one of the most exquisite mitres donned by the Pontiff during his lifetime. It matches well the chasuble made of brocade fabric, also by the Saint Bede Studio.

Below, the master craftsman at his work, creating the mitre in preparation for the visit of Pope Benedict to Australia for the World Youth Day celebrations.

A great many of their fine works can be seen on their excellent blog site: saintbedestudio.blogspot.com.

Vestment creations include noble mitres in the Medieval footprint and chasubles in the ancient conical form and in the Neri style.

The beautiful silk damasks of floriated designs are stunning, often with shining taffeta lining and lovely orphrey braids with Catholic designs, stylized with customized monogram motifs and beautiful galloons with religious patterns. The high level of creativity and style is an inspiration and deserves to be well known in North America, where there is a large and burgeoning market for high quality vestment making that is affordable and on time. The colorful themed prints on the orphreys are most impressive, seen below.

I encourage both clergy and lay faithful to get in touch with Saint Bede Studio and purchase custom vestment sets. Vestments make perfect gifts for pastors and parish sacristies. Custom orders from the Saint Bede Studio are one-of-a-kind creations that are unique and classical in their own right and stand out in any liturgical setting. They also stand the test of time, made by hand with imagination and foresight, with time-tested sewing techniques and choice of rich high-quality fabrics with intense color schemes.

Below are some promo images that highlight the superior quality of the work. I hope readers will be inspired to place orders.
